Having fun during therapy

This is a shot of Emily from a few weeks ago. She was working on drinking from a cup with her speech therapist. It is not just plain liquid, because she hasn't quite figured out how to handle thin liquid. We use an assortment of things - this time, I believe it was: applesauce, formula and cool whip. She gets pretty messy, but she did a great job with it. If you notice Emily's position, her arms and legs are extended out - she does that when she gets excited (she really likes cool whip and who can blame her?).
Here she is working with her Occupational Therapist. They were working on pulling toys. Emily really liked that little truck. It has beads in it so it makes noise when it moves.
Can you tell she was enjoying herself? She always has fun with her OT. Whenever Emily is seated in front of her like this, she tends to look up at her as if to say "Did you see what I just did?". It is adorable!

Here she is playing with the truck by herself in her stander. If you look closely, you can see her tongue sticking out a little bit. She is making her "happy click" (she clicks her tongue against the roof of her mouth to let you know she likes something).

It is so nice when she enjoys herself while doing therapy!

She looks like it is a playdate instead of therapy. How wonderful! She is so adorable with that grin!

And the blog looks pretty! I like it!

I've been following your blog for a little while but never commented. Emily is absolutley beautiful. She reminds me a lot of our two year old son. Cody also has difficulties swallowing thin liquids. He is orally fed thus far but we add simply thick to everything. Didn't know if you had tried this but it has worked well for us so far and doesn't have much of a taste......

Take care

I love seeing how Little Em is growing and progressing in her therapy. Reading this and seeing the pics was such a treat-she always blesses me.

I am grateful she is doing so well.

I love the photos. Emily is doing so well!

We are working on drinking from a cup, too - looks like the same one as Emily with the cut out portion for her face - and wanted to thank you for the idea of what to us for thickening the liquid. I've used applesauce and go gurt, but I think whipped cream would give Emma some gusto when it comes to working on drinking.

Emily may like to try playing with bead necklaces if she doesn't have any of these already. We get ours at the party store for very cheap. They are lightweight but fun to shake around and easy to grasp for little hands and they make great noises when shaking on various surfaces like Emily's stander/tray. Oia LOVES, loves, loves her bead necklaces and it is one of the only things that has initiated two handed play for her. Also, place a lump of several necklaces in a pile and just about any reach and grasp is bound to come back up with a necklace or two. Very forgiving with accuracy...

Just sharing some OT that works with us...maybe it will be OT fun for Emily too.
