Just wanted to give a quick update on the car saga that began on our way home from Florida.
We dropped off the car at the shop at the beginning of July. We were told that the mechanic would be out for a week and the shop would be closed for a week. We also knew that we had to get the paperwork together for the warranty company and they probably wouldn't be in a big rush to shell out a chunk of money. So here we are on August 10th (Emily is 22 months old today, by the way) and we are still driving around in our Honda.
We do finally have some answers about our Escape. First, we do need a new engine. Second, the warranty company will not cover the cost of the damage. We aren't surprised by either of those statements, really. We were trying to be hopeful about the warranty, but at the same time, we thought in the back of our minds that they would not cover it. Thankfully, the mechanic was able to get a used engine for us. It has about 80,000 miles on it (our Escape had about 70,000 so pretty close). The used engine is about 1/4 the cost of a brand new one, so that is good. We may not get the Escape back for another 2 weeks - with all the time off, they are a little behind in their work.
So in the meantime, we will continue to drive our Honda and thank God that we have it.
