This year we are doing things a little different than in the past. Last year we did not go home for the holidays because we did not know how Emily would do with traveling and there were still so many questions to be answered. This year we will be traveling to RI this coming week. We will be going for almost two weeks! We have planned on taking two days to travel each way, but we are going to try to do it in one day. We will be leaving at 6:00 AM on Tuesday morning and who knows when we will arrive. With just Dawn and I we can get there by 10:00 PM, but with Emily, our time frame is thrown out the window.
Our original plan was to come home for Christmas, when everyone is having gatherings and people are out of work. But Dawn's company changed the way they are carrying over vacation days and we were forced to change our plans. The good news is that we will be able to have a quiet Christmas day thoroughly enjoying the reason we celebrate the day to begin with...Christ's birthday! We will also have all of our Christmas shopping done and all the other stresses of the season behind us. We love family, and that is who we are going to RI to see, but when you have to go to three stops in one day, it makes the day long and not so enjoyable.
The funny thing is that we are going to RI, but the focus in not going to be on Dawn or me, but on Emily...which is how it is supposed to be...I guess?!
As I mentioned, we will be leaving on Tuesday morning and we are going to try to stick with a strict routine of not stopping unless we need gas. When we stop we get gas, eat and hit the rest room, then we are off again. Our stops will be a little longer because we will have to feed Emily also and we will have to get her changed every time. This will tend to add a few hours at least to the trip. We'll just have to see how it goes. Ever since we turned her car seat around, she has not had any problems in the car. We were also able to borrow a DVD player from some friends that Emily can watch while we are driving.
We ask that you pray for us while we are traveling. It is going to be a long two weeks going from house to house and seeing as many people as we can in a short period of time. Every day is already planned and we are literally at different houses every night.
Dawn has tomorrow off and the entire day will be spent doing laundry and packing everything in the house. Emily requires a lot of stuff! There are many items that she requires that are not easy to find, so we have to make sure that we remember everything. We are already planning on packing light and going to Walmart when we get there to get the essentials like diapers and baby food.
We will keep you posted as we have time throughout the week. There are also some pictures that Dawn would love to share with you, so come back for those.
