Emily is ONE tomorrow! It has been so busy here preparing for her party and taking her to doctors and seeing therapists that I have not had time to keep you updated...sorry. We went to the optometrist on Monday and he told us that she is improving greatly. The last time we were there she had trouble with near and far sight. The doctor said that both have improved and she is doing great in her vision. I mentioned the fact that she has a lazy eye and he suggested an eye patch for one hour, three times a week. So if you see Emily and she looks like a pirate, it isn't for Halloween, it is to strengthen her weak eye.
Speaking of Halloween, Dawn and I don't celebrate this "holiday." We usually go out to eat or go to the fall festival at church (a Christian alternative to Halloween with all the candy!). This year our church is not going to be having our fall festival on that day, so we are still undecided on what we are going to do. Dawn's sister, Lisa, and her family bought Emily a costume for the occasion and we had to see what she looked like in it...
We met with the nutritionist yesterday and Emily came in at 20 lbs and 14 ounces. She gained a pound and a half in one month! She is also 29.75 inches. This means that tomorrow we can turn her car seat around! We are excited about that, although we don't know how she will do with it. In the front facing position the seat does not recline as much as in the rear facing position. This may cause a problem with keeping her head up. We will see tomorrow.
We have also started to change her formula. We are changing from Alimentum to Peptomin Jr. The jury is still out on whether this is good or bad. She did dry heave this morning after breakfast, which she has not done in quite a while. It might just be figuring how much to give her. It is stronger than her old formula was and may need to be diluted a little more. Everything is trial and error with Emily. We will just keep changing things until we find out what works. This may take a few weeks, but we will figure it out.
Next week I have three appointments in three days. We have the pediatrician, the stomach doctor and the Board of Health (WIC). On the other two days, I will probably have the two therapists. I know Friday will be physical therapy, but I am not sure about Speech therapy just yet.
On Saturday Emily is going to have a party at our church! Dawn has been going crazy making all the preparations. I am in charge of food, so you know nobody will go home hungry. We got a cake that is probably bigger than Emily, so that should be fun! Emily has not had cake yet, so we have no idea what her reaction is going to be. Don't worry, there will be plenty of pictures coming so you can all see.
Dawn sent out 16 invitations, but with the size of families here, it was more than sixty people. That was not even everyone we would have liked to invite! Many of those are children and many are unable to come, but we will still have a good crowd. A good time will be had by all!
I am sure there is more that I could talk about, but the well is running dry for now. You can be assured that we will have to post tomorrow to celebrate the BIG day. It may be just pictures, but most of you come here for the pictures anyway.
Have a great day and feel free to leave Emily a birthday message!
Some pics for your enjoyment...
