Sunday and Monday were rough days in our household! Emily is cutting some teeth and letting everyone around her know how she feels about this event in her life...she doesn't like it! It started on Sunday before church. We were getting ready to leave and the meltdown began. We did all we could to get her calm to no avail. We finally put some Anbesol on her gums and hoped for the best. She calmed down enough for us to leave and on the ride to church, she was in the back seat (where she should be) laughing the whole way. Dawn and I couldn't help but laugh along with her. I thought it was an evil laugh, while she was thinking "I've effectively ruined their worship time!"
We got to Sunday school and all went well until it was time for service. She had another meltdown and Dawn calmed her down after a few minutes. During the service, Dawn was paged to attend to a screaming child...Emily. She missed the entire sermon.
I think all went well for the rest of the day (It is a blur). Then at 2:00 in the morning, Emily woke up hurting again. I got up and did the best I could to calm her down. Dawn then got up with her again at 4:00 and we both got up with her at 5:00. It was a long night for all of us. I got to go back to sleep for an hour, but Dawn had to get ready for work. Needless to say, we were tired yesterday!
But, God is good and Emily slept through the night last night! We all were able to get the rest we needed to take on today. Emily and I had a great day with no meltdowns and lots of smiles.
She still only has two teeth that are showing any signs of coming through, so we know that there is a long road ahead of us. We are not looking forward to it, but I guess it is part of parenthood and it is certainly not the worst thing that we have been through.
She has been eating well, although when her gums are bothering her, she eats far less. We don't force her to eat and she usually lets us know when she is done. When more comes out then goes in, it is time to quit.
Last night I had to get out of the house and just have some time to myself. Tonight is Dawn's turn. A little rest (or time away from Emily) is a good thing every once in a while! We love her with all the love a parent can muster up for their child, but sometimes you need to get away from her. If you have children, you know exactly what I mean.
